Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Ballet in a New Choreography by Christian Spuck, Performed by Ballett Zürich. Can a prince in a classic ballet dance on a skateboard? Absolutely! Children and their parents will be delighted to watch this completely unconventional version of the famous “Nutcracker” set to Tchaikovsky’s magical music, presented by the renowned German choreographer Christian Spuck. His colorful and witty interpretation of “Sleeping Beauty” recently graced cinema screens, captivating audiences. Christian Spuck, while acknowledging the globally beloved version of “The Nutcracker” centered around Christmas themes, also revisited the ballet's original inspiration. His production steps away from the later adaptations of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tale by the German Romantic writer and pioneer of fantastical horror. Instead, the choreographer stays true to the original storyline: when the Mouse Queen is not given enough bacon by the royal couple, she curses their daughter Pirlipat, transforming her into a monster with massive teeth, who then demands tons of nuts from her parents. In the Zurich production, the dark atmosphere of this romantic children’s tale is palpable, but Christian Spuck fills the stage with spectacular classical and contemporary dance performances.
