Broadcast from Opernhaus Zürich: Piotr Beczała, one of the world's leading tenors, takes on the role of Prince Sou-Chong, delivering the famous aria "You Are My Heart's Delight" – the most powerful highlight of the production of "The Land of Smiles" from the Zurich Opera House. Another strong point is the exquisite staging. This work by Ferenc Lehár, the composer of "The Merry Widow", is quite unusual for an operetta as it lacks a happy ending. The story of Liza, a Viennese woman who falls in love with a Chinese prince and decides to start a new life in China for him, does not end well. She cannot reconcile with the customs of the Chinese court, so different from those in Europe. Despite her great and reciprocated love for Sou-Chong, Liza decides to return to Austria. The performance is conducted by Fabio Luisi, a conductor associated with the world’s most renowned opera houses and orchestras. The director of the production is Andreas Homoki, who has directed dozens of opera productions for prestigious venues such as Berlin’s Komische Oper, the Vienna State Opera, and Milan’s La Scala. "The Land of Smiles", prepared by the team at Opernhaus Zürich, premiered in 2017 and was revived in July 2024 at the audience's request. Now, we are bringing this operetta to cinemas.
